GHAZNI CITY (PAN) airstrike in southern Ghazni province, an official said on Friday.
Thursday’s air raid targeted a Taliban hideout on the outskirts of Ghazni City, the provincial capital, Nabi Jan, the governor’s secretary, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He identified the dead militant leader as Mahaz, saying four of his associates also died in the airstrike. The official said Afghan forces were not involved in the operation.
Following the attack, area residents said, police shifted the rebels’ corpses from the scene. Five civilians were also detained, a move that triggered a protest in front of the police headquarters.
The villagers asked the police authorities to free the detained individuals and hand them the fighters’ bodies for burial. “After the raid, police held non-combatants and took away the bodies,” said resident Sharifullah.
