GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Eighteen insurgents, including a foreigner, have been killed in a fresh bout of violence in Ghazni and Logar provinces, officials said on Sunday.

Three fighters, including a Pakistani, were killed after they stormed an Afghan Local Police (ALP) post in the Lewanee Baba area of Qarabagh district in southern Ghazni province.

Fazlur Rahman Sabawoon, the district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the overnight assault triggered a 90-minute clash, killing three of the attackers and wounding five others.

One ALP official was killed and two others were wounded during the firefight, according to the district chief, who said the injured were in stable condition.

In central Afghanistan, 15 militants were killed and three others wounded during an ongoing security operation in the Khushi district of Logar, a military official said.

Col. Ahmad Jan Mukhlis, the 203rd Thunder Military Corps spokesman, said with the help of ALP and Public Order Police the offensive had been extended to the Aryub district of southeastern Paktika province.

Mukhlis added at least nine guerrillas, one of them clad in women.
