KABUL): The Afghan Anti-Corruption Network and Anti-Corruption Watch Organisation on Sunday renewed their call for the government of President Hamid Karzai to fulfill its commitments to fighting administrative graft.

In a joint statement, the organisations urged the government to implement a system of rewards and punishments at all levels for the sake of sustainable reforms.

Under pressure from the international community to do more to battle corruption, Karzai last year issued an ambitious list of reforms ordering his ministries, prosecutors and the judiciary to fight bribery, nepotism and cronyism.

The 23-page decree also instructs officials to clear the attorney general’s office and the courts of languishing corruption-related cases and do more than talk about bringing crooked figures to justice.

In the decree, Karzai also repeated his request that high-ranking government officials or their relatives do not get rebuilding contracts.
