KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): A 60-year-old farmer was killed in a mine blast in the Panjwai district of southern Kandahar province on Sunday morning, the governor’s office said.
The man was busy harvesting grapes when he stepped on a hidden mine that went off and injured him seriously. A statement issued from the governor’s office said the farmer was taken to hospital by security personnel but died of his wounds there.
The statement accused the Taliban of planting the mine to target security forces. It said the Taliban continued to plant the improvised explosive devices near fields and orchards and as a result often civilians were killed and wounded.
