Col. Hikmatullah Haqmal, the district police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News they launched an offensive in Zambeli and Mairmand areas the other day.
During the operation, he said three militants were killed and 10 others injured. He also acknowledged the loss of three Afghan National Army (ANA) personnel. Ten landmines planted by the insurgents were defused, he added.
But Taliban spokesman Qari Muhammad Yousaf Ahmadi said eight Afghan soldiers were killed and two of their vehicles damaged in the Zambeli locality.
