KABUL James on Friday briefed President Hamid Karzai on his visit to Islamabad.

The diplomat had met Karzai before flying to Islamabad, where he assisted Secretary of State John Kerry at meetings with senior Pakistani officials.

A brief statement from the Presidential Palace said matters of bilateral interest were discussed at the meeting. The envoy shared with the president the outcome of his talks in Pakistan.

Karzai observed the Afghan nation wanted his proposed trip to the neighbouring country to produce the desired results in terms of expediting the reconciliation process.

The failure of his visit would be in the interest of neither Afghanistan nor Pakistan, he said, hoping both nations would benefit from an agreement on stepping up the peace process.

Before meeting Karzai, the envoy told reporters in Kabul Afghanistan was one of the topics discussed with Pakistani officials.

While desiring robust relations with Afghanistan, the Pakistan government was eagerly awaiting Karzai’s visit, he said. Islamabad also wants to help the Afghan-managed reconciliation process.
