HEART CIYY (PAN): The problem of issuing visas to foreign skilled workers at the industrial park in western Herat province has been resolved, officials said on Tuesday.
The issue was resolved in line with industrialists’ demand and recommendation of Governor Fazlullah Wahidi, police spokesman Col. Abdul Rauf Ahmadi told Pajhwok Afghan News.
A delegation arrived in Herat from Kabul a day earlier and after consultations, decided to extend visa services for foreign workers to the province, he said. Foreign workers would be issued visas after every three months, he said.
Herat chamber of commerce and industries chief Saad Khatibi, welcoming the decision, said it would enable many factories to resume productions.
Around half of 10,000 workers at 350 factories at the Herat industrial park are foreigners.
Last week, a steel-melting factory was closed down by its owner to protest the prolonged delay in issuing visas to foreign workers at the factory.
Foreign workers have to travel to Kabul from Herat to obtain visas, but factory owners called the process time-consuming and expensive.
