MAIMANA (PAN): Four policemen were killed when a roadside bomb ripped through their vehicle in the Dawlatabad district of northwestern Faryab province, an official said on Friday.
The blast took place on Thursday evening, said the district chief, Syed Abdul Salam Nizhat, who added the dead included a police commander.
The policemen were travelling on the Faryab-Jawzjan highway carrying logistics for police posts in the area when fell prey to the improvised explosive device, he said.
A security official identified the slain commander as Khalid Mohammad, who he said had taken part in recent operations in Qisar and Pashtunkot districts.
Insurgents have been operating in Dawlatabad, 62 kilometres west of Maimana, the provincial capital.
Insurgents closed the Faryab-Jawzjan highway twice over the past two weeks and blew up four electricity pylons.
