Karzai inquires after health of Bush, talks to Gul
KABUL (PAN): President Hamid Karzai phoned former US President George W. Bush and inquired after his current health status and also talked to his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul, the Presidential Palace said on Saturday.
Bush, who is said to be recuperating well and expected to leave the hospital Wednesday, underwent surgery on Tuesday morning to insert a stent after a blockage was discovered in an artery.
"Everything has gone perfectly, according to plan. He is doing great and still on track to leave tomorrow," according to Bush spokesman, Freddy Ford.
Karzai wished early health recovery for Bush and congratulated him on the successful surgery, the Presidential Palace said in a statement. Bush thanked Karzai for inquiring after his health and said he was in good health condition.
The Afghan leader also phoned Abdullah Gul and felicitated him on Eidul Fitr, the statement said, adding Gul called bilateral relations between the two countries as important.
