HERAT CITY (PAN Zarghon district of western Herat province, police said.
The early morning clash between two rival Taliban commanders – Abdullah Akbari and Abdul Salam — took place in the Aab-i-Garm area, Herat police chief Brig. Gen. Rahmatullah Safi told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The clash came three days after a Taliban commander named Sheikh was killed in the Guzra district. A security official said Sheikh was killed as a result of his diffirences with Akbari.
Meanwhile, gunmen shot dead a pro-government elder on the outskirts of Heart city. Sher Ahmad Khan he was killed inside his home in the noon, police spokesman Col. Abdul Rauf Ahmadi said.
The assassins had fled, but a search was ongoing to nab them, he said, adding Khan had no personal enmity, but was a supportive of the government.
In northern Jawzjan province, two rival Taliban groups clashed in the Qush Tapa district, leaving one militant dead and two civilians injured.
The district chief, Aminullah, said the clash that broke between gunmen loyal to commander Maulvi Nimat and Qari Amanulah around 8pm last night continued until 6am on Sunday morning.
A farmer and his eight-year-old sister and a supporter of Maulvi Nimat were killed in the firefight.
