ANP leader gunned down in Peshawar
KABUL (PAN): A woman leader of the Pakhtun Nationalist Awami National Party (ANP) has been assassinated inside her residence in Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar, media reports said on Saturday.
Najma Hanif was gunned down by unidentified assailants in upscale Hyatabad neighbourhood late on Friday night, police told the Dawn newspaper. The attackers managed to escape after perpetrating the murder.
Ismail khan, in charge of the police unit at Hyatabad Medical Complex, confirmed Najma Hanif was hit in the head and face. She was received dead at the hospital.
Her husband Hanif Jadoon, also an ANP leader, was killed along with his son and guard in a suicide bomb attack in July 2011. She was a candidate for a provincial assembly seat reserved for women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
