PUL-I-KHUMRI (PAN): Efforts are underway to secure the release of three Ministry of Mines engineers who were abducted in the Tala Wa Barfak district of northern Baghlan provinces, officials said on Sunday.

The engineers and their driver were kidnapped three days ago when they were surveying coalmines in the area, district police chief, Lt. Col. Karimdad, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the engineers had travelled to the area without bodyguards. Efforts were being made by local elders to free the men, the official added.

Karimdad said there was no clue yet to the kidnappers, and they had not demanded any ransom so far.

Eng. Abdul Khalid, director of coalmines, said talks between the abductors and local elders were in progress. No group has so far claimed responsibility.
