HERAT CITY (PAN): Hundreds of residents of western Herat province on Sunday staged a protest against target killings of policemen and government officials.
Carrying the body of a policeman who was killed on Saturday night, nearly 200 people took to streets on Sunday morning, chanting slogans against target killings.
“Killers are the enemies of Afghanistan,” chanted the protestors, who asked the security personnel to prevent such killings and punish the perpetrators.
Ahmad Ali, a relative of the victim, told Pajhwok Afghan News the border policeman was shot dead by two motorcyclists in 12th police district.
The security situation had worsened this past month when 10 policemen and government employees were killed, said Sher Alam, one of the demonstrators.
Police spokesman Col. Abdul Rauf Ahmadi said a suspect had been arrested and was under interrogation. Some explosives were also recovered from his home.
