KABUL.

In a message on Afghanistan’s Independence Day, the ambassador acknowledged the two nations had a long and complex history.

“We have, however, worked more closely together during the last 12 years than in any previous period.  I look forward to building on this strong foundation of collaboration and friendship,” he added.

The United Kingdom’s long-term commitment to Afghanistan was based on a shared interest in Afghanistan developing in peace and security, he remarked, saying the two countries would continue to work side by side to build a better life for all Afghans.

“Looking back over the past 12 years, it is important to recognise how far we have travelled together and just how much progress has been made. Next year’s elections will be an important opportunity to cement these gains and to pave the way for a more prosperous future.”
