KABUL): Amu Zone outplayed the Boost squad in the opener of the three-day Ahmad Shah Abdali Baba Cricket Tournament on Monday.

Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News the Boost skipper won the toss and elected to bat first.

Mujtaba smashed a superb 123 to guide his side to a total of 264 runs, Hotak said, adding Javed Ahmadi bowled his heart out and captured seven wickets.

Amu Zone were restricted to 157 runs in their first innings, Najib Zadran taking four wickets and Yamin Ahmadzai dismissing three rival batsmen.

In their second innings, Boost batsmen scored 251 runs, setting the opposition a target of 340 runs for victory, the ACB spokesman said.

Javed Ahmadi played the captain’s knock by hitting a marvellous 138 and steering Amu Zone to well-deserved three-wicket win. He adjudged the Man of the Match for his magnificent all-round performance.

In their next encounter, Amu Zone will take on Ainak Zone from central Logar province. Teams from the five zones are taking part in the contest.
