KABUL negotiators, a senior official said on Monday.

At a meeting at the Presidential Palace, Karzai consulted his close aides, jihadi leaders, cabinet members and other high-ranking officials on a replacement for Aloko, who was appointed as attorney general in 2008.

A source privy to the meeting confided to Pajhwok Afghan News that many participants supported Ludin’s appointment as new AG. Although the president has tacitly agreed to the suggestion, a formal decision is yet to be taken.

Hailing from the eastern province of Nangarhar, Ludin is currently the deputy head of the High Peace Council. His new assignment could be announced in a couple of day, the official said on condition of anonymity.

Earlier in the day, the Reuters news agency quoted an unnamed source as saying that Aloko had met members of the Taliban’s peace negotiation team in Dubai in the first week of the current month without permission from the government.

“President Hamid Karzai has sacked his attorney general after the chief law officer held an unsanctioned meeting with Taliban peace negotiators in the United Arab Emirates.”

A parliamentarian also confirmed Aloko’s sacking, but an AGO official denied that his boss had been dismissed. The AG was at the Presidential Palace celebrating Independence Day, he added.

Despite being asked to stay away, the AG attended the meeting in Dubai that involved prominent Afghan officials, including High Peace Council members.
