18 highway robbers detained
GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Eighteen highway robbers have been arrested in southwestern Paktika and southern Ghazni provinces, officials said on Tuesday.
The robbers would be punished publicly, Ghazni Governor Musa Khan Akbarzada told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The detainees allegedly killed two drivers from the Rawza village of Ghazni City on the Kabul-Kandahar highway in Maqur district and took away their fuel trucks two days ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Prosecutor Abdur Rashid Abid said a 12-member group of robbers had been arrested between the Gilan district of Ghazni and the Shahjoi district of Zabul province.
Six other robbers linked to the group were arrested in Paktika province on Monday and handed over to Ghazni police.
Rawza villagers on Tuesday gathered in front of the Ghazni governor’s house and asked officials to execute the drivers’ killers.
Haji Khuda Dad, a tribal elder from Rawza village, said if the murderers and robbers were publicly punished, a strong message would be sent to other criminals.
