Muslimyar takes a dig at Sherzai, security bosses

JALALABAD (PAN): Senate Chairman Abdul Hadi Muslimyar on Thursday asked Nangarhar Governor Gul Agha Sherzai and his top security officers to come out of their slumber and focus on improving security in the eastern province.

Addressing a condolence ceremony for an education official, Muslimyar said the situation in Nangarhar had nosedived in recent months as the governor and other top security bosses remained unconcerned.

Unidentified gunmen shot dead Chaparhar district education officer Azim Nayel was gunned down on his way to Jalalabad in Hafizan area on Monday.

Accusing the provincial officialdom of negligence, a rather gushy Senate chairman warned the insurgents: “I swear, I won’t spare even your children.”

Parliamentarian Faridoon Momand blamed the deteriorating situation across Afghanistan. “Let’s stop backing the Punjabis and Arabs…and rebuild our homeland.”

In his address to the gathering, Finance Minister Omar Zakhilwal also voiced grave concern at worsening security in Nangarhar, blaming the provincial administration and people of failing to arrest the wave of lawlessness.

“The militants are freely roaming around here. Is it security?” he asked, urging the administration to shun their laxity and initiate effective measures to instill a sense of protection among citizens.

Meanwhile, Deputy Governor Hanif Gardiwal acknowledged insecurity had increased in Nangarhar. He said Sherzai had shared the problem with President Hamid Karzai.
