Kabul rally wants Shujayee hanged publicly
KABUL (PAN): A large number of people coming all the way from central Uruzgan province staged a protest rally in Kabul on Monday, calling for the public hanging of a serial killer, Hakimullah Shujayee.
Shujayee, a resident of southern Ghazni province, has allegedly killed 121 people and injured hundreds others in the Khas Uruzgan district of Uruzgan and Kandahar provinces.
The rally at the Zarnigar Park in Kabul asked the government to arrest the fugitive and bust his gang which they said continued to unleash atrocities on innocent people.
Mohammad Hanif Hanifi, a former Meshrano Jirga member and resident of Khas Uruzgan district, told Pajhwok Afghan News the warlord had been harassing and killing innocent people over the past four years.
“Shujayee has killed more than a hundred people for no good reason and continues with his brutal actions,” Hanifi alleged.
Another resident of the district, Abdul Malik, said the gunman had killed and tortured residents and torched their houses under the pretext of searches for militants.
The protestors showed reporters video clips of Shujayee’s criminal activities. They urged civil society institutions to put pressure on the government to take action against the wanted man.
A week back, the Interior Ministry said it had directed police to investigate complaints against Shujayee and arrest him.
The ministry spokesman, Ghulam Siddique Siddiqui, confirmed receiving many complaints against Shujayee, calling him an illegal commander who had no connection with Afghan security forces.
The protest rally in Kabul comes a day after tribal elders and family members of Shujayee’s victims held a gathering in western Herat province. The gathering asked the government to arrest Shujayee and bring him to justice.
