Letta praises ISAF mission in Afghanistan

KABUL-led force said on Monday.

“I really wanted to be here today to express the appreciation of the nation to you all. Your contribution to the stability of this part of the world has been recognised worldwide,” he told soldiers.

Addressing Italian troops in western Herat province after his arrival in Afghanistan on Sunday, the visiting dignitary said: “In these years, you have presented the best image of our country in the world.”

Letta also met ISAF Commander Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, who praised the achievements of the Italian personnel engaged in ISAF. He said the Italians contributed daily with dedication and professionalism to the NATO mission.

During the visit, an ISAF statement said, the Italian premier attended a memorial service where members of the coalition joined to honour the men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice to give Afghanistan a better future.
