KABUL and Azerbaijan will sign an agreement on cooperation in the energy sector next month in Baku, a diplomat said on Wednesday.
The accord would be inked during Minister of Mines Wahidullah Shahrani’s visit to Azerbaijan in early September, the Azerbaijan Ambassador to Afghanistan said.
Dashgin Shikarov told the Baku-based Trend news agency the delegation headed by Shahrani would meet Azeri ministries to discuss future cooperation.
“Afghanistan is also interested in Azerbaijani investment in the energy sector, and the Afghan government provides all guarantees for the security of investments,” he said. Several bilateral documents on cooperation are likely to be signed.
Azerbaijan, among the top five investors in Afghanistan, is ready to expand trade ties with the country. “In the near future, based on plans for Azeri private and public sector, we are ready to invest about id=”mce_marker”-2 billion in different sectors in Afghanistan.”
Shikarov said large reserves of natural gas had been discovered in Afghanistan and Baku had offered Kabul to use its experience during field development.
