KABUL of International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) membership.
Formalities for Afghanistan joining as IPPC member had been met, according to a July 2013 memo of FAO’s general director, sent to the Afghan embassy in Rome, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday.
As of June 5, 2013, a statement from the ministry said, the convention had come into effect with respect to Afghanistan. The IPPC, one of significant international conventions on agriculture, was signed in 1951 and ratified in 1952.
It aims to secure international cooperation and coordination, exchange of technical views and experiences and adopt timely and effective measures to protect plants against pests and prevent plant diseases among countries.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock will be in contact with the FAO Secretariat to ensure regular contacts, receive timely notification on relevant developments and avail the convention’s benefits.
