Karzai slams mosque bombing as barbaric act
Dasht-i-Archi district's administrative head Sheikh Sadruddin, his bodyguards, a public representative’s brother and civilians were killed in the bombing.
The bomber struck when local tribal elders and officials were attending a condolence ceremony for an influential figure who died a day earlier.
Karzai said: “This barbaric attack on the mosque, where the faithful gather for worship and religious ceremonies, is an act against Islam. The perpetrators will earn nothing but Allah’s wrath and hatred from Afghans.”
In a statement, the president praised the assassinated district chief as a patriotic man, who always endeavoured to bring peace to his area and resolve residents’ problems.
Karzai extended his heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured, according to the statement.
