MAHMOOD RAQI (PAN): A civilian and six militants were killed in two separate security incidents in central Kapisa province on Friday, a police official said.

The civilian was killed and another wounded by a Taliban-fired rocket in the Joibar area of Tagab district this morning, the deputy police chief for Kapisa said.

Col. Abdul Jalil Shamal told Pajhwok Afghan News the insurgents wanted to target a police checkpoint in the area but the rocket strayed into a civilian house.

Resident Haji Niamatullah confirmed the incident, saying he was unsure who had fired the rocket. He called for the insurgents and security personnel to ensure residents’ protection.

Elsewhere in the province, six fighters were killed during an ongoing search operation in Nijrab district, Col. Shamal said, claiming five villages had been cleared of insurgents.
