KABUL of targetting innocent civilians.

On Friday, five children were killed and three others wounded by an improvised explosive device blast in the Dushi district of Baghlan province.

In the troubled south, a dozen civilians were killed when the vehicle they were travelling in struck a roadside bomb in the Garmaw area of Sangin district in Helmand.

The president strongly condemned the attacks as acts of cowardice, saying the Taliban had been undermined to the extent that they were massacring civilians at the behest of their “foreign masters”.

Karzai noted a spike in insurgent assaults on ordinary residents at a time when Afghan forces were taking charge of security across the country and foreign troops preparing to exit.

Ina statement from his office, the president lamented that militants had resorted to killing workers, children and women — something that conclusively proved the rebels could nothing but to ruin the country.

He asked insurgent leaders to realise that by targeting non-combatants they could earn nothing but the wrath of Allah and the people. “The fighters who are not involved in these attacks should raise their voice against these savage and inhuman actions.”
