GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Afghan troops killed nine insurgents, detained as many and injured three others during operations in southern Ghazni and central Maidan Wardak provinces, an official said on Monday.

Five fighters were killed in the Moshki area of Ghazni’s Qarahbagh district, the 203rd Thunder Military Corps spokesman, Brig. Ahmad Jan Mukhlis, told Pajhwok Afghan News. The soldiers also seized some weapons.

In Wardak, a joint Afghan and international force conducted an operation in Nirkh district, killing four armed rebels and detaining nine others, according to Mukhlis. The fatalities took place in Muslim village after the combined force called for air support.

Civilians suffered no casualties during the ground and air offensive that left three insurgents injured.

The operations come the day five Taliban were killed during a clash with security forces in Khwaja Omari district. Their bodies have been evacuated to the civil hospital.
