JALALABAD (PAN): Three doctors were kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in the insurgency-plagued eastern province of Nuristan on Tuesday, officials said.
The doctors, who had come from Kabul, were abducted at 8.30am when they were travelling between Do Aab and Noorgram districts, the governor’s spokesman said.
Zahir Bahand told Pajhwok Afghan News the doctors were visiting the insecure area to inspect clinics and health centres there, without informing security personnel.
Provincial council deputy head Amanullah Inayatur Rahman verified the incident, saying they were abducted in an area where the government had no writ.
A security official, who did not want to be named, disclosed the kidnapping took place between Sang-i-Pul and Ganda Labok areas of Noorgram district.
He identified the victims as Ministry of Public Health official Dr. Burhan, Asadullah Shinwari and Noorullah, both working for the International Medical Corps.
