KABUL): Four Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers have been killed and five others wounded in different security incidents in the country over the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Defense said on Wednesday.

Two soldiers were killed and three others wounded in southern Helmand province and another two perished in central Uruzgan province, a statement from the ministry said.

Two more Afghan troops were wounded in central Logar province, the ministry said, amid reports that casualty rates among local security forces were unsustainable.

In an interview with a British daily, published on Tuesday, International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) commander Joseph Dunford  said casualty rates among the Afghan army and police had been consistently high: “I view it as serious. I’m not assuming that those casualties are sustainable.”

Afghanistan‘s 350,000-strong security force still needed support in certain areas such as logistics, planning, intelligence-gathering, back-up from planes and helicopters in difficult operations, the general said.
