KABUL Cricket Board (ACB) on Thursday said players would participate in a ceremony marking the launch of a campaign against illiteracy at the Kabul International Cricket Stadium.

The board in a statement said it would assist the Afghan National Party in launching the nationwide campaign and would spare no effort in marking the International Literacy Day.

The statement said a jihad would be declared against illiteracy during the launching ceremony.

Religious scholars and cricketers in their speeches and messages on the occasion would urge patents to send their children to school and facilitate their education.

ACB spokesman Farid Hotak said national players would play a 10-over game as part of the ceremony, which also included singing national anthems by children.

Afghan National Party leader Dr. Faiz Mohammad Zaland said millions of Afghan children were deprived of education as a result of the ongoing conflict.
