TALOQAN (PAN-made handicrafts, was inaugurated in the capital of northern Takhar province on Thursday.

Women-made clothing, carpets, handbags and several other products were displayed at the show arranged by a local organisation, “Women’s Abilities” in Taloqan, the provincial capital.

Parvin Aarifi, the organisation’s director, told Pajhwok Afghan News the participating women had gone through a 10-month vocational course in the lead-up to the exhibition.

“All hand-made products on the display are produced by women who took part in the course,” she said. “Such exhibitions help women improve their skills and know how to find market for their products.”

A stall owner, Siah Moi, said skilled women should be encouraged in making their businesses a success, they should have easy access to market and their products should be preferred over those imported from foreign countries.

“Our people should use home-made products instead of those made in foreign,” she appealed, adding imported goods had a negative impact on the country’s economy.
