CHARIKAR): Gunmen attacked security guards of a lawmaker travelling in the Bagram district of central Parwan province on Saturday, sparking a gun-battle that left two people dead, an official said.
The guards, belonging to Mir Rahman Rahmani, a member of the Wolesi Jirga or lower house of parliament from Parwan, came under attack from illegal armed men in the Toqchi area around 9am, the district chief, Abdul Shakoor Qadosi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
In the ensuing clash, both sides lost one each man and another three were injured, he said. The attackers were yet to be identified, but corpse of the attacker was handed over to his family in the Shakah area, he said.
The attackers fled the area taking away their injured colleagues, according to Qadosi, who said police had arrested three suspects in connection with the attack.
One of the two injured guards of Rahmani was evacuated to Kabul facility, where the slain attacker’s body had also been delivered.
Eyewitness Abdullah said the exchange of fire between Rahmani’s guards and the assailants lasted about seven minutes.
