KABUL-France Joint Commission’s inaugural meeting in Paris on Wednesday.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul said the bilateral commission was established pursuant to the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the two countries and was signed between President Karzai and President Sarkozy in Paris in January 2012.

In a statement, the ministry said Rassoul and Fabius expressed satisfaction about friendship, partnership and cooperation between the two countries, especially during the past decade.

Rassoul expressed his gratitude on behalf the Afghan people to France for its sacrifices and investments in their country’s security and development.

The two foreign ministers also underlined the joint determination to further strengthen and broaden cooperation in bilateral and multilateral arenas in the years to come.

In this context, the two sides endorsed a five-year implementation plan to translate the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation into concrete projects and activities, especially in the areas of education, energy and culture.

Dr. Rassoul also held separate bilateral meetings with French defense minister Jean-Yves Le Drian at the French Ministry of Defence.
