KUNDUZ CITY/MAIMANA (PAN): A schoolteacher died in a roadside bombing in northern Kunduz province, while a security guard of a road construction company was found beheaded in northwestern Faryab, officials said on Sunday.

The schoolteacher, Abdul Rahman, was on his way home when the bomb exploded in Khanabad district, the district chief, Hayatullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News. He suspected personal enmity behind the attack.

A resident, who wished anonymity, said the teacher was brother of an illegal armed commander, Mohammad Omar, who had allegedly murdered a person in the area few days ago. “It is possible the teacher was targeted by the victim’s relatives to seek revenge on his brother,” he believed.

In Faryab, a guard of a road construction company was found beheaded in Almar district.

The victim, son of Maulavi Sirajuddin, a former primary court chief, was kidnapped on August 28 by suspected insurgents, the district chief, Mohammad Saleh Saleh, said.

Abdul Basir Faryabi, the company’s security unit head, said the Taliban had kidnapped the guard along with his brother. On Sunday morning he was told his brother had been killed by the kidnappers, but later it appeared it was not his brother, he said.
