ANA troops among 9 killed in Ghazni, Herat
GHAZNI/HERAT (PAN): Two Afghan National Army (ANA) troops and seven insurgents have been killed during separate incidents in eastern Herat and southern Ghazni provinces, officials said on Wednesday.
The seven Taliban fighters were killed during a NATO airstrike in the Andar district late on Tuesday night, the ANA’s 203rd Thunder Military Corps 3rd Brigade spokesman Nazifullah Sultani told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The strike in Sher Kala area came when the insurgents had assembled for a meeting, he said.
In Herat, two ANA soldiers were injured during an insurgent attack in the Shindand district, the district police chief, Col. Ghulam Ghaus Malyar said.
But another security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the soldiers died on their way to hospital.
Herat police spokesman Col. Abdul Rauf Ahmadi said six insurgents were detained during an operation in the Karkh district on Wednesday.
Two rebels were injured during the offensive also involving foreign troops, he said. Nine AK-47s and a walkie-talkie were seized from the detainees.
