KABUL): The public order police chief for Kabul survived an overnight gun attack, but his two bodyguards were killed, an official said on Wednesday.

Gen. Zamarai Pikan was travelling in the Khair Khana Mina area of Kabul City last night when came under attack from unknown assailants around 11.am, Kabul deputy police chief, Brig. Gen. Mohammad Daud Amin, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Pikan stayed unhurt, but two of his bodyguards travelling with him were killed, he said. The attackers were yet to be identified, but an investigation was underway, the police official said.

A relative of Pikan, wishing not to be named, said the attack left one guard and the driver dead and another three guards wounded.

Pikan, a former jihadi, had previously survived a similar attempt on his life in Mirbacha Kot district of Kabul in January.
