KABUL): The selection committee on Wednesday said it had recommended 15 individuals to President Hamid Karzai for choosing five of them as commissioners on the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC).
Meshrano Jirga chairman Fazl Hadi Muslimyar, also a member of the selection commission, told reporters in Kabul 302 individuals had applied for the positions.
He said 15 of the 263 short-listed applicants, who met the conditions, were recommended to President Karzai today. They included three females.
Selected on the basis of ethnicity, Muslimyar said five of them had been picked from Pashtun tribe, four from Tajik, two from Uzbek and three from Hazara and one from Turkmen.
They are Dr. Najibullah, Shujauddin Shuja, Shafiqa Muabir, Abdul Sattar Sadat, Abdul Jabbar Hameedi, Syed Azizullah Oryafar, Kazima Muhaqeq, Syed Azizullah Ulfati, Rida Azeemi, Mohammad Jawad Salehi, Abdul Ghayyur Ghayyur, Syed Farooq Omar, Amanullah Tajali, Nadir Muhseni and Pighambar Qul Doghan.
Muslimyar insisted transparency was maintained throughout the selection process and there had been no pressure on the committee.
