WASHINGTON (PAN) chief for the northern province of Kunduz.
“We strongly condemn the killing of Mr. Aman. We extend our condolences to his family and friends,” State Department Deputy spokesperson Marie Harf told reporters at her daily news conference.
A peaceful and constitutional political transition through a credible and inclusive electoral process was critical to Afghanistan‘s stability, she said. Targeting those working to carry out these elections was against the aspirations of the people, she added.
More broadly, Harf said, there had been some positive signs recently in Afghanistan, where candidate registration had begun ahead of next year’s presidential and provincial council elections.
“These are positive steps forward …this is a complicated process and we, of course, express our strong condolences today to his family, but we want to keep seeing some of the positive steps we’ve seen,” Harf said.
