KABUL on Saturday, the alliance said.

“ISAF and Afghan officials are assessing the incident to determine the facts and as more information becomes available, it will be released as appropriate,” the NATO-led force said in a statement.

In line with its policy, the multinational force deferred casualty identification procedures to the relevant national authorities.

But Defense Ministry spokesman Gen. Mohammad Zahir Azimi told a foreign news agency the attack took place in Gardez, the capital of Paktia province. He said the ministry was investigating the latest green-on-blue assault.

Three NATO-led troops were wounded in a similar assault in southern Afghanistan on July 9, when an Afghan soldier fired at American troops at the Kandahar Airfield.

Despite tight security arrangements, ISAF has lost scores of soldiers to insider attacks in the country, creating mistrust between the two sides. In 2012, 46 foreign troops were killed and 62 others wounded in green-on-blue attacks.
