KABUL): Safi Airways, the privately-owned Afghan airline, on Tuesday announced plans to operate three flights a week between Kabul and Islamabad with effect from October 1, 2013.

Flights are scheduled to depart from Kabul on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 13.00 hours (midday) and will arrive at Islamabad’s Benazir Bhutto Airport at 14.45 hours.

Return flights would leave Islamabad on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 15.45 hours, arriving at 16.25 hours at the Kabul International airport, the airline said in a statement.

Safi Airways Marketing Manager Naeem Mahmoor said: “We will be operating our modern Airbus 319 aircraft on this route with a two-cabin configuration (business and economy).”

He voiced his happiness over meeting customers’ need, revealing: “In coming months we intend to announce operations to destinations in the Gulf, which will give the travelling public from Islamabad convenient connections…”

In operation since 2006, the airline currently operates two flights a day from Kabul to Dubai and four flights from Kabul to New Delhi on the international route network.
