KABUL): Top Iranian and Pakistani leaders have renewed their pledge to support the Afghan-led reconciliation process, a media report says.

The reiteration of cooperation came at a meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in New York on Tuesday.

During their talks on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, they agreed Afghanistan’s neighbours needed to work closely with the government Kabul.

According to the news agency Associated Press of Pakistan, the two supported an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led political process.

They also discussed bilateral relations, including energy cooperation at the meeting — the first since their respective election victories. The two sides exchanged views on regional and international issues, particularly the challenges being faced by the Islamic Ummah.
