Preachers beat killers to death in Jalalabad

JALALABAD (PAN): Members of a Tableeghi (preachers) congregation have beaten two killers to death in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Sunday.

Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the two gunmen shot dead one preacher and wounded three other at the congregation centre here.

The overnight incident infuriated the preachers, who caught and thrashed the attackers to death, the official said, adding the annual gathering was still ongoing.

Police spokesman Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal said they were investigating the incident. Identities of the killers and victims were yet to be ascertained, he added.
