KABUL): Eight security personnel and five insurgents have been killed in separate incidents of violence in different parts of the country, officials said on Tuesday.

One policeman was killed and another wounded as a result of a roadside bombing on the outskirts of Tirinkot, the capital of central Uruzgan province, late on Monday, police spokesman Farid Ayel told Pajhwok Afghan News.

In the same province, two policemen were killed and as many wounded in a blast inside their post in Choora district,.

The district chief, Najibullah Hayat, confirmed the incident, saying it happened in Sangar area on Monday.

A doctor at the civil hospital in Tirinkot, Izzatullah, confirmed receiving two bodies and two wounded policemen. The injured police officials were in stable condition, he said.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence in a statement on Tuesday said two Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed and a third wounded in an insurgent attack in the Zurmat district of southeastern Paktia province.

Another two ANA soldiers were killed and three others wounded in Zabul and Maidan Wardak provinces over the past 24 hours, the ministry said.

Security officials in Wardak said 10 Taliban militants were killed and wounded during clashes with security forces on Monday.

The dead included a senior Taliban commander, who was killed in Khwaja Karez area of Nirkh district, the governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, said. One rebel was wounded during the overnight operation, he said.

Another two militants were killed and a third wounded during a clash with ANA troops in Chak district of Wardak.

Khogyani confirmed one ANA soldier was lost to the firefight in Chak, saying an insurgent was killed during a NATO airstrike near Maidan Shahr, the provincial capital.

A civilian was also killed by unknown gunmen in Jalrez district of the province.
