KABUL’s landmark elections in 2014.

“The Fikar wa Amal Jirga which established by large group of former and current senior government officials, tribal elders, Ulema activities, are hopeful to play important role in upcoming election and future polity in the country in order to strengthen national unity. In the short term objective, Fikar wa Amal Jirga had various meetings with potential candidates and President Karzai to build some consensus before election by agreeing on few principles and have healthy political campaign between all contenders.”  The spokesman of Jirga told to Pajhwok Afghan news.

Earlier, Fidaee said the civil society group was an independent forum that was not campaigning for any particular candidate.

While impartially evaluating candidates, the group will support a team which respects the country’s constitution and Afghan traditions besides adherence to the religious teachings.

The ex-governor said the Jirga feared deals among a number of tribes, groups and parties might delay the elections — a severe blow to the election processes and the existing political environment.

Also a spokesman for the forum, Fidaee told Pajhwok Afghan News: “The Fikar wa Amal Jirga is optimistic about fair and inclusive elections and considers the use of state machinery by candidates against the principles of democracy and justice.”

The Jirga has been playing highly significant short and long-term roles in holding a series of discussions with jihadi commanders, politicians, religious scholars and civil society groups to make the elections credible.

The Jirga, which claimed playing a vibrant role in slashing the number of contenders, will announce its decision at a gathering to be held at an opportune time.
