KABUL): In an expected move, Abdul Rahim Wardak joined the presidential election race by filing his nomination papers with the Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Saturday.
A former advisor to the president on defence, Wardak was accompanied to the poll panel by hundreds of his supporters, including parliament members.
Wardak, who resigned his position last week, has picked up two former Wolesi Jirga members, Shah Abdul Ahad Afzali and Syed Hussain Anwari as his first and second vice-presidents respectively.
Dr. Abdullah, Abdul Rab Rasul Sayyaf, Bismillah Sher, Qutbuddin Hilal, Bismillah Sher, Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, Fazal Karim Najimi and Hashmat Ghani Ahmadzai have already jumped into the fray.
Since the nomination process started on Sept. 16, 73 individuals including three women have so far received information kits on presidential elections.
