KABUL): The Afghan consulate, traders and MPs honoured the triumphant national cricket squad at a meeting in Sharjah, the United Arab Emirates, an official said on Sunday.
Afghanistan Cup on Friday when they trounced Kenya by seven wickets in the second one-day match of the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cricket League in Sharjah.
Legislators, traders, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) Chief Executive Officer Noor Mohammad Murad and cricketers attended the meeting, organised by Afghan Consular in Sharjah Hatif Mal Stanikzai.
ACB spokesman Farid Hotak quoted Stanikzai as congratulating the nation and the team on the massive win, calling an unforgettable achievement. “It’s a memorable moment in my life and I can’t express my feelings,” he remarked.
Noor praised participants of the meeting for supporting the players, in particular, Haji Mayel, Haji Izzat and Haji Aziz Hatif for constantly encouraging national heroes.
The Afghan government and merchants should honour the heroes, said Stanikzai, who revealed and some traders had presented $30,000 in gift to the winning squad.
