KABUL) on Thursday insisted it would allow no foreign and local group or individual to interfere in the election process.

IEC deputy chairman Abdul Rahman Hotaki told reporters in Kabul no government or international organistaion would be allowed to meddle in the April 2014 landmark elections.

He said the election commission was making efforts to avoid the repetition of past mistakes.

He said they were hopeful the election would be relatively transparent and inclusive compared to the past.

Efforts were being made to enable people to actively participate in the polls, but political parties, civil society networks and the masses were required to extend their cooperation toward that end, he said.

Calling security threats a major challenge, Hotaki said IEC had enough technical and financial resources to conduct the elections as scheduled.

He said they had started vetting documents of candidates, a process that would come to a close on October 19.
