JALALABAD (PAN): Six civilians were killed and eight others critically injured when unknown individuals fired rockets into a district bazaar in eastern Nuristan province on Saturday, officials said.

The incident took place in the Doab district bazaar in the afternoon, the district police chief, Lf. Inayatullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He feared the death toll could increase because some injured people were in critical condition and the province lacked better health facilities. He said the injured people were needed to be shifted to Nangarhar province for treatment.

A resident of the area, Sultan Mir, said the rockets were fired at people in the bazaar, killing and wounding more than 15.

Security officials said they had launched an investigation into the incident and efforts were being made to arrest the perpetrators.
