GHAZNI CITY (PAN insurgents were killed and 11 others injured during a gun-battle with Afghan forces in the Gilan district of southern Ghazni province, an official said on Saturday.

The clash broke out in Dowala area on Friday night when Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel noticed a group of insurgents had gathered in the area to attack their posts, 203rd Thunder Military Corps spokesman, Nazifullah Sultani, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the ALP members suffered no casualties during the two-hour firefight.

A resident of the area, Mohammad Sharif, said both sides used small and heavy weapons. Two civilians were injured when a mortar shell hit a house during the clash, he claimed.

The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident, but their spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid in a statement said a large number of security officials were killed and wounded during attacks across Ghazni and other provinces.
