KABUL): President Hamid Karzai has appointed Gen. Ghulam Ali Wahdat as the new governor of central Bamyan province to replace Dr. Habiba Surabi.
Surabi has resigned as Bamyan governor to contest as a running mate of presidential candidate and former foreign minister Zalmai Rassoul in next year’s elections.
The Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) in a statement said on Sunday Gen. Ghulam Ali had been appointed as the new governor as directed by President Karzai.
The IDLG hailed Ghulam Ali as an experienced and right person for the governorship, saying he could play a constructive role in Bamyan’s reconstruction efforts and boosting public trust in the government.
Appreciating Surabi’s services for the wellbeing of Bamyan residents, the IDLG said she had delivered credible services to the people and her tenure set an example of good governance.
