JALALABAD/KABUL): Security officials on Monday said logistic supplies had been delivered to the border police in the Khogyani district of eastern Nangarhar province, despite militant attacks on the convoy.

Nangarhar police chief Brig. Gen Fazal Ahmad Shirzad told Pajhwok Afghan News the logistics carrying convoy was twice attacked by insurgents on its way to Khogyani.

The police chief said he himself joined the police putting up stiff resistance to attacking militants. “They were pushed back after a 30-minute fire exchange,” he said.

He said the second attack on the convoy took place near the border with Pakistan. The clash resulted into the killing of 10 militants, he said.

“We cleared the area from militants and then dispatched the supplies to police personnel in the border zone” he added.

He said some special programs were being initiated to improve the security situation in Nangarhar.

Another security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said 19 militants were killed in a clash in Tangi area of Khogyani.

But a Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, claimed nine Afghan security personnel were killed and 13 others wounded in the Khogyani clashes. Ahmadi also confirmed the death of seven fighters.

Elsewhere, a suicide attacks facilitator was detained along with three companions in central Maidan Wardak province.

The militants were detained during an operation in Narkh district late on Sunday, the governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, said.

He added a militant commander Mullah Ubaid Nizami was killed during an overnight airstrike in Narkh.
